The ABC Construction Rodeo is a fun-filled day for families, complete with free parking and free admission. Clowns, face painting, balloons, games, and door prize drawings can be found all throughout the day.

Thousands of people come out to learn more about the construction industry, while supporting the Make-A-Wish®
Foundation and the Merit Shop Scholarship Fund. Various construction competitions showcase the skills of our members' tradespersons, who are given difficult tasks with a fun twist, using heavy equipment such as cranes, excavators, and skid steers or showcasing speed and dexterity with trades such as carpentry, electrical, and plumbing -- with safety always in mind.

The annual craft apprenticeship competition, held in conjunction with the Rodeo, features apprentieces from ABC member companies, the winners of which will continue on to compete at a national level.

Attractions and events include: inflatable slide; construction obstacle course for students; equipment simulator; nail and peg driving contests; Lego® competition; aerial lift and more. Plus, an interactive family safety area!

  • New! Build a brick wall activity ($1.00 cost goes to Make-A-Wish)
  • Life Lion Helicoper from Hershey Medical Center!
  • Prizes included one boy's and one girl's bicycle
  • Watch local TV and radio personalities compete on a backhoe!
  • The “Dancing Digger!” Exhibited by Stephenson Equipment, Inc.; operated by Bob Freund

Total Make-A-Wish and Scholarship Fund donations from ABC Keystone's involvement
to date has topped $344,864!

A story about the Construction Rodeo was published in the December 2010 issue of the Construction Executive magazine.

“… This year I made a point to walk the “Back Lot” at 4pm and was just amazed at the number of young parents and children at the event. I spoke to one parent who said his kids were 'happier than if they were at Hersheypark,' and that he had been there for three hours and could not get them to leave!! What a wonderful way to introduce folks to the construction trades and create excitement at an early age! All great investments in the future of construction!”

"I had an awesome time helping out at the Construction Rodeo. Glad I helped out with the Kids Digging for Prizes. It was such fun, hadn’t played hard like that in years!!"
